Despite the relentless budget cuts to the CSU, there are many positive initiatives throughout the system that have the potential to counteract some of these external pressures -- and CATS members play a pivotal role in ensuring their success. Dr. Maggie Beers, Director of Academic Technology at San Francisco State University, explores nine national and local higher education trends and initiatives. She provides explicit examples of ways that Next Generation CATS can capitalize on an array of technology innovations to help transform the CSU and the lives of its students.

Session Description  CSU East Bay has made it possible for faculty and staff to easily build and maintain Google Sites, which encourage communication and collaboration. (Google Sites is just one of the Google Apps for Education.) In this session, participants will tour a few of the sites that have been developed and learn about the benefits - and challenges - of having a department, group, or project site. Participants will also be given access to a Google Site that they can use to collaborate with the other participants in the workshop.

Session Description  CSU's Affordable Learning Solutions campaign has developed tools to enhance the content decision-making process that teaching faculty use in Blackboard.This session will demonstrate the integration of Web Scale Discovery, an Open Education Resources (OER) Look-up tool, as well as standard and proprietary Textbook lookup. All of the tools are able to add citation information within Blackboard that can then be presented to students in a course description or syllabus.
Pre-requisites  Interest in LMS and integration of affordable learning resources in course descriptions and syllabi.
